How to adjust gain without clipping

Check the available headroom first

The current peak shows how far the file is below 0 dBFS. Use that headroom as the upper limit for added gain.

Watch the predicted peak

Adjust gain while keeping the predicted peak at or below 0 dBFS. Crossing that ceiling would clip samples when the file is exported.

Leave room for later processing

If the track will still pass through EQ, effects, or mixing, stop below the maximum and preserve some headroom for those stages.
