The player, USB workflow, or delivery target should decide the output format. Broad compatibility and lossless storage solve different problems.
MP3, OGG, and OPUS use lossy compression; WAV and FLAC are lossless. Converting a lossy file to a lossless format changes the format and file size, but it cannot restore detail already removed.
